FLUIDS: The Lifeblood of Your Vehicle
Most drivers realize the importance of changing the motor oil and filter at regular intervals, but many other vital fluids are easily overlooked. Other fluids are critical for your vehicle’s performance, longevity, and your safety. These fluids need to be checked, changed, and refilled – especially leading into the fall and winter seasons. With the extreme heat of this past summer, many of the vital fluids that keep your car running can break down and become ineffective. That’s why it’s a good practice to change the vital fluids in your vehicle every 30,000 miles.
Transmission fluid: Even though it does not need to be changed as often as engine oil, your transmission fluid breaks down over time, causing costly repairs. Having fresh transmission fluid will not only give you a smoother ride but will extend the life of your transmission and increase your fuel mileage.
Brake fluid: Under your hood there’s a white plastic tank with the words, “Brake Fluid.” Even though it may appear to be full, there’s more than meets the eye. A vehicle does not use up brake fluid, but it does break down, losing its effectiveness. Replacing your brake fluid ensures optimum brake performance. NOTE: If your brake fluid shows a low level, there might be a leak in your brake lines or your brakes may be worn.
Coolant / Antifreeze protects against engine overheating in summer and enables your engine to run properly in cold temperatures. Servicing your vehicle’s cooling system protects against corrosion and fluid brake down. NOTE: Clean your radiator and condenser fins once per year and check the cooling fan operation regularly.
